Members of the World Burial Index can browse through the thousands of Interesting Inscriptions at leisure: These include unusual deaths; centenaries; notable occupations and verses which offer an insight into the sometimes humorous and occasionally morbid burial traditions of our ancestors.

Our ambition is to transcribe as many of the world's memorials as is at all possible. This is almost an overwhelming prospect. We know that we cannot achieve it alone, therefore we are asking those interested in this community project to contribute memorials from their own country; over time more and more Memorial Inscriptions relating to your family name and history will appear on this web site.
